Chef Jason Wyrick

Chef Jason Wyrick started his culinary career in early 2004 with Devil Spice's line of vegan chilis and salsas. In May of that year, he catered a friend's fundraiser party to much acclaim and decided to launch the catering division of Devil Spice shortly after that. Since then, he has catered for Farm Sanctuary, PETA, and the Sun Festival (Arizona's version of the Green Festival), as well as numerous private parties, weddings, and other affairs. In late 2004, Chef Jason was asked to teach vegan culinary classes to local Phoenix residents and has been teaching every month since then. Since his first class in December of 2004, his culinary instructional classes have gone from one a month to ten to twelve a month.

Chef Jason Wyrick grew up in Phoenix, AZ and moved to Fort Worth, TX to attend college. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from TCU. During his time in Texas, he became vegetarian and then vegan. After eleven years in Texas, he returned to Phoenix and currently lives and works there.

Chef Jason has made many of the mistakes that new vegetarians make. Namely, he moved towards eating more processed foods and replaced all the meat he was eating with cheese. This led to him becoming diabetic by the time he was 27. After learning of Dr. McDougall's program from a friend, who was also vegetarian and diabetic, who cured her diabetes solely through diet, Chef Jason became vegan. After that, he learned about the ethical issues surrounding factory farming and so has a dual reason for being vegan: ethics and health. Being an aspiring foody, Chef Jason quickly realized he could not sustain himself on a strict McDougall diet and so began experimenting with tasty, healthy food. Since then, he has become a chef and his talent for cooking excellent vegan cuisine has won him critical acclaim.

Chef Jason has been chosen as VegCooking.com's October, 2005, Chef of the Month, putting him in company with Chef's such as Eric Tucker from the Millenium Restaurant and Ann Gentry from Real Foods Daily. He has also been featured across the state in the Arizona Republic and has been featured on ABC's local morning show, Sonoran Living Live.
